Bull Hill Trail
Bull Hill Trail is located just
north of Cold Spring, NY off of Route 9D. The trailhead and parking is just
across the street of the Little Stony Point Park entrance.
Bull Hill Trail is a trail that
is steeped in history and wonderful panoramic vistas. While hiking on the
Washburn Trail (white marker), you will come to an old quarry that was in
operation from 1931until 1967. It is now
over grown, but the rock face is still visible. This is where many people lose
the trail. You want to walk right to the rock face, which is okay, but don’t
look for the trail there! The trail is on your right when you first enter the
expansive space of the quarry.
The
trail has a few steep ascents where you start asking yourself and your hiking
partners, “Are we there
yet?!" But don't give up this trail is worth the effort.
From vertical outcroppings you can see panoramic veiws of the Hudson River and West Point.
When
you are near the top look for a rock labeled NYC and turn around. On a really clear day you can see the city skyline.
From
the panoramic views, this trail turns in to an exploration of abandoned
buildings, rock walls, a cistern, an abandoned farm, an old mansion, and an old
wooden road.
